Renewable Materials Use (RnwMtl)

Manufacturing With the Right Stuff

Description | Indicators | Scoring Criteria | Definitions | Issues

PROBLEM
Continued extraction and refinement of raw materials from the earth is energy intensive, destructive of air quality, water quality, and habitat and ultimately unsustainable. Today’s standard forestry and agricultural practices are also reliant on depleting fossil fuels and are destructive of soil resources as well as air quality, water quality, and habitat.

GOAL
Utilize only reused, refurbished or post consumer recycled materials or sustainably harvested bio-based materials.

IDEAL
All materials in the product and packaging system are reused, salvaged, refurbished, post consumer recycled or sustainably harvested bio-based materials.
